Just Do It.

That's going to be my new motto. Just do it.

An example:
I'm one of the worst at comparing myself to others or wanting to be someone I'm not. Maybe we all do that. I think lately I'm trying to just enjoy exactly who I am. (Maria posted a way awesome post about this one time about seeing yourself as others see you.)

Anyway, I always want to be like this ultimate fitness queen who gets up at 6 a.m. and runs five miles and rides my bike to the store to stay in shape and save on gas (who really does that!?). Or I always think I should be taking a walk right now. Or I shouldn't eat any more leftover Halloween candy. Sometimes I just need to let myself relax and live life and Just Do It.

Greg and I found a trailhead up a canyon here in American Fork and I'd been wanting to hike it. So last week, on a Wed. morning I really did get up early and I thought, "It's a great fall morning for a hike!" And it was. I drove up to the trail head, parked, and started out. It was so quiet and peaceful and chilly. I loved it. The birds were chirping and the stream was bubbling. I didn't pass a single soul on the trail and it was just a great way to start my day. I felt so invigorated! It was time well spent for sure.

Here's the trail on the way up.
Here's the stream down below the trail. I think you would get some awesome photos if the light were right. And here's American Fork from the top of the canyon as the sun is starting to warm up the day.

I did have one little incident where I thought I was going on the trail, and I wasn't, so I ended up trying to scramble down the sheer face of the mountain. I was wearing basic running shoes, which don't have tons of traction, so I slipped. Luckily I didn't get hurt or drop the camera or something. Next time I'll have to follow the right trail, but it was way awesome to be out enjoying the moment that morning.

It's like I posted with going to the movie myself: if I want to do something Oprah) then I'm going to do it! Today I went for a little jog, by the way. So even if I am never going to be the ultimate fitness queen, I can be me! The girl who is huffing and puffing and blowing her nose as she jogs along in the cold!

  1. Lis,
love the post! I've been thinking alot about this lately too (seeing myself as others see me). It's kind of funny that you would say you are the worst at comparing yourself with others. I don't see you being that way at all! I think the way I see you and what I would call it is that your driven. Your driven to be better, do more, willing to change, and to "just do it"! I love that you went on the morning hike. I bucked up and took a walk to a little park with alexis on monday. It is invigorating to get outside every once in awhile. Funny too that people don't do that as much as they used too! (go outside). Outrageous! Love you. Miss you guys! love all the pictures and I wish I could paint myself green everyday and look as good in green as you do! Greg made a fabulous wizard too!
