Brigham's 1st Birthday

Happy Birthday to Brigham! We celebrated as an extended family last Saturday by going to the zoo and then having a little party at Sarah's. She is the cutest mom! She made this darling frog cake and had a pinata for the kids, and party hats for us all to wear. Brigham is such a cute little bug. It's fun to watch Alexis with him, although she does want to take everything from him. She's been working on sharing. Shaun and Ems accepted a job in Nebraska, so we'll miss having them here for family things. We are so excited for them, though! When we lived in Iowa, it was a great experience, so I'm sure they'll learn a lot in Nebraska and love their new adventures. Speaking of family, I don't know if I have mentioned that Mike and Seve are having a baby girl in February, and Stace and Mike are having a baby (we don't know boy/girl yet) in April! So, that will be two more little cousins on the Hurst side.

OK, back to the birthday. The Zoo was so much fun! Still hot, though. When is that fall weather supposed to kick in? At least we're not sweltering in St. George. Has anyone been to the bird show at the zoo? It was AMAZING. The highlight of our day. And, we loved the elephants, too. One of their elephants is pregnant, so the zoo will be getting a baby elephant in summer of 2009. Won't that be adorable?! Any of you who know Greg know how much he loves animals. So, going to the zoo with him is almost like taking a kid...not quite, but I thought it was funny that, without my even saying anything, Sarah observed, "Greg is like your kid at the zoo!" Yep. He loves animals, and that's something I love about him. He and Maria's little boy Dylan would have a great time together getting to be zoo keepers for a day or something.
Here's a video of the talking parrot during the bird show.

  1. Our little zoologists play so well together :) I LOVE the zoo too. What a good idea for a birthday party! I wish the weather was a little warmer in March. That would be a great place for Dylan to celebrate his birthday, but it's been cold and even snowy on his birthday every year. Oh well! It looks like it was a lot of fun though. Marcos kind of knows one of the guys that does the bird show at the zoo. He used to go to one of the clubs where the Bad Luck Blues Band played. So he was really excited to talk to the guy after the show when we went a while ago. It really is amazing to watch the things they train those birds to do.

  2. Darling photos. I love the turtle. I didn't know you got to hold it! How fun. The bird show was amazing. And yes it is cute to see Alexis with Brigs. I'm glad she's learning how to share. It was fun to see Greg's face at the bird show. I'm glad we got to come.
