Flexibility

Not in the sense of being-able-to-do-a-perfect-"downward-dog"-yoga-pose flexibility. Just flexibility in the sense of being able to work really great hours!

When we first moved here, I planned on working part-time, so 20 hours a week, from home. But sometimes I have less work than that, and I'm sure I'll have more sometimes. So, I asked my work if it would be OK to just track my hours and just get paid for whatever I work. That was fine with them! So, it's so nice to have that flexibility to work whenever I want.

Today I was able to take a nice long break to do a little house straighening and visiting teaching. Then I just came back to my office in the afternoon to check e-mails. When I worked from home before, I had lots of clients that I was expected to be available for, so I was always worried that I had to just be there at my desk in case they called. So, I'm loving being more free to just have a nice work-from-home job with really flexible hours.

I will say that I get a little bored, though. I have lots of people comment that they think working from home would be the greatest thing ever! And it is, in lots of ways. But, I also find myself getting a little bored at times just being at home all day. (I know you awesome stay-at-home moms can probably relate!) At least when I was working full-time from St. George, I was out of the house. So, today for example, visiting teaching was a nice little diversion. I am thinking of volunteering at a school this fall to read to kids or something. Just to have something on the side to get me out of the house and contributing to a good cause in some way. Maybe getting used to being home now will help prepare me for when I am a stay-at-home mom.

  1. I'm glad you have some flexibility again. If you get bored during the day, don't forget my number. The background noise can be a bit chaotic, but I can always use some adult talk time. I love you, girl!

Oh yeah, any thoughts on getting together between our birthdays to celebrate leaving the 20's behind? (I'm trying to put a positive spin on this whole turning 30 ordeal) Maybe lunch or something girly like a pedicure? I'll email you.

  2. Yay! That is really great. I do relate with the bordom stuff. I still think in the long run you are going to like having more flexible hours. I'm glad you are enjoying it!

  3. I know what you mean about working from home. I miss the physical interaction with people. The phone and email just aren't good enough...even as a stay-at-home mom you have to get out of the house often.
