Footprints in the Snow

First I must start off by saying that I got the image for this post from the following website: http://www.freeimageslive.co.uk/free_stock_image/snowpath5688jpg.

I can't believe I'm finally posting again! I thought it would be a good idea to start documenting my life some more. I have high hopes for 2010, and these posts could be a nice record of the new year. On that note, does anyone know of a good way to have all your blog posts published?

Now, on to the subject of this post...

Today was an insanely busy day for Greg! It was 9 p.m. and I had been watching TV for about two hours and started to get really bored. I looked out the window and noticed that it had snowed enough to shovel again. I had already snowblowed, then shoveled to get out for my eye doc appt., and then snowblowed again around 6 p.m.! So, this was going to be the fourth time. But I didn't mind. It was such a nice, light, peaceful, quiet snow. I guess you could even call it my favorite kind of snow. So, I happily bundled up to go out for a bit of a shovel.

I shoveled our driveway, and actually it was really fun. I didn't want to snowblow because I didn't want to disturb the peaceful night. So I was just shoveling and thinking and got to shoveling more and more of the sidewalk, like in front of our house and three others! Crazy I know. So then when that was done and Greg still wasn't home, I was still bored and feeling quite energized from the shoveling. So, I decided to take a walk.

I walked all the way to the end of 2300 (which is quite a few blocks, not really sure how many) and back. Well, the great thing about this is that I left two sets of perfect footprints in the snow. One going north and the other coming south. It was really awesome coming back and to see my own set of prints. I could only see them for a little bit because of the way the street lights are placed. So I got to thinking about that and had a great life-symbolism moment. I'll try to explain it:

I was thinking how weird it was to see my own footprints and the road I had just traveled. Then I was thinking how I could only see a little bit in front of me into the dark...you know...like faith. But, since I had already traveled that road, I knew that even if I couldn't see the footprints, they were there. As long as I kept moving forward on my new path, I would see the sure and steady footprints from the path I just made.

Then I was thinking about the Savior and his mortal sojourn. He has traveled this path. The footprints he left are plain to see...well, at least each time we come to a streetlight! Sometimes it feels like we are in the dark, but we aren't. I also was thinking a little (but not too much because I try not to dwell) about Greg and I and our path to having kids. (Which is the great thing I'm hoping for in 2010.) And how I have only been able to see a little of that path at a time. But, the sure and steady footprints are what I need to keep making. Walking by faith.

So, that was my nice peaceful winter walk! I really loved it and it was such a great end to my evening.

Greg finally did get home around 10:15 or so. Now he's in bed waiting for me to finish this so we can go to sleep!

Happy New Year, everyone!

  2. My kids published two years worth of blogs into 2 different books for my birthday last year. I love them! They used www.blog2print.com
I'm getting ready to have last year's blogs printed.
There is another web site I found: www.scrapbookblogger.com that turns your blog into more of a scapbook (the blog2print doesn't show your backgrounds when it prints).

  3. I am SO behind on my blog reading. Sorry about that! I seriously have been so sick this time around. But thank you for your comments. It was actually a perfect thought for me right now- not just because it's always a good reminder- but because of our New Beginnings. I might even have to borrow your story to wrap up my thoughts that night. I've got to put them down on paper first and make sure they flow, but I think it's a great analogy and exactly what we're trying to teach the girls. By following in the Savior's footsteps, we can be happier...and that doing Personal Progress leads us to Christ. Anyway, good analogy. I love that you can just go for a winter's walk by yourself when you're bored and be happy about it. I think I would've been way too grumpy! :)
